Two US cybersecurity experts sentenced in ransomware case, third awaits July ruling

Two U.S.-based cybersecurity professionals were sentenced to four years for collaborating in ALPHV/BlackCat ransomware attacks carried out between April and December 2023; a third co-conspirator has pleaded guilty and awaits sentencing. The defendants targeted at least five U.S. companies (demanding multi-million dollar ransoms), successfully extorted about $1.2M from a medical firm, laundered proceeds through mixers and wallets, and were investigated and prosecuted by the FBI/DoJ as part of a broader RaaS-linked campaign.
