19.6 Billion Files Are Sitting Open on the Internet. No Password Required

Researchers at Mysterium VPN found 19.6 billion files exposed across 535,480 publicly listable cloud buckets on major providers (AWS, GCP, Azure, DigitalOcean, Alibaba), including 685,047 credential/key files and nearly 1,000,000 database dumps. The report highlights that these exposures result from misconfiguration (publicly listable buckets), explains how simple discovery can yield full attack kits (credentials → DB exports → cracked hashes → account takeover), and urges defaults to private, encryption of backups, secrets avoidance in object storage, and proactive scanning.
