Educational tech firm Instructure data breach may have impacted 9,000 schools

Instructure (Canvas) is investigating a data breach that allegedly impacted nearly 9,000 schools and up to 275 million individuals, exposing names, email addresses, student ID numbers and private messages; the extortion group ShinyHunters has claimed responsibility and posted a Tor leak demand. The company reports containment actions (revoked credentials, key rotations, patches, increased monitoring) and states there is currently no evidence that passwords, dates of birth, government identifiers, or financial information were exposed, while investigations continue.
