Romanian national Gavril Sandu was extradited to the U.S. to face charges for a 2009–2010 international vishing and bank fraud operation in which attackers compromised small businesses' VoIP systems to place spoofed calls, collect debit card and PIN data, create forged magnetic-stripe cards, and withdraw stolen funds; he was indicted in 2017, arrested in Romania in January 2026, extradited in April 2026, and faces up to 30 years if convicted.
