OpenAI Expands ChatGPT Lockdown Mode to Millions of Eligible Users

OpenAI is expanding availability of Lockdown Mode for ChatGPT to eligible personal and self-serve business accounts; the mode restricts browsing, Deep Research, agent mode, file downloads, some image tools, and Canvas networking to lower prompt injection and data exfiltration risks. OpenAI warns the feature reduces but does not eliminate risk—malicious content in cached web data or uploaded files can still affect outputs—and notes a tradeoff in usability that IT teams should consider when handling sensitive or regulated data.
