Microsoft announced that starting January 12, 2026, Teams will become “secure by default” by enabling three protections for organizations using standard configurations: blocking dangerous file types, real-time scanning of URLs for phishing/malware, and user reporting of false positives. Admins can opt out by adjusting settings in the Teams Admin Center before the deadline, but otherwise the controls will auto-apply to reduce AI-driven phishing and malware risks while providing a feedback loop to refine detections.
