Belgian Researcher Held in China-Linked Semiconductor Espionage Probe

Belgian prosecutors are investigating a 52-year-old dual national and former senior researcher at bankrupt BelGaN who was detained while attempting to fly to Beijing on suspicion of transferring sensitive gallium nitride (GaN) semiconductor intellectual property and trade secrets to a Chinese company; authorities have arrested him, seized electronic devices and communications, and are probing possible espionage, participation in a criminal organization and unlawful disclosure of business secrets, though the allegations remain unproven.
