A hacker collective physically removed a Flock roadside camera and recovered ~1.6 million images, 27,321 video clips, and logs covering roughly 50,200 vehicles after finding an encryption key on an unencrypted media partition; Flock’s central servers were not compromised but the incident exposes weaknesses in on-device key storage and local data retention and recommends protecting keys, limiting local retention, and preparing for device theft.
