News reports describe an active destructive campaign (the 'Meow' attack) that has scanned for and wiped unsecured CouchDB, Hadoop and other exposed databases, deleting data from almost 4,000 unsecured instances; the activity leverages exposed/misconfigured database endpoints rather than an advanced exploit, causing direct data loss for affected systems and requiring urgent remediation.
