How K-12 Organizations Can Better Protect Students’ Digital Identities

This report highlights that K–12 educational institutions are frequent targets for ransomware and data breaches—citing Medusa's March 2023 disclosure of Minneapolis Public Schools records and industry statistics showing widespread PII exposure—and outlines common cybersecurity challenges (limited funding, small IT teams, limited hours, weak security awareness) along with recommended mitigations such as strong identity security (MFA and monitoring), vulnerability management, legal/regulatory awareness (FERPA/CIPA), security awareness training, incident response retainers, and cyber insurance.
