Lateral Movement

This document is an overview of lateral movement: it explains how attackers move within networks after initial access, the stages (reconnaissance, credential harvesting, expanding access), common techniques (pass-the-hash, abusing remote access protocols, exploiting trust relationships), detection challenges (use of legitimate tools and credential-based attacks), and layered defenses (visibility, credential protection, segmentation, behavioral analysis and rapid human-led response).
