European organizations are experiencing a pronounced increase in ransomware and extortion operations driven by AI and advanced social engineering: CrowdStrike data cited ~2,100 Europe-based victims on dedicated leak sites since January 2024, faster time-to-ransom (shrinking to ~24 hours), and notable actors such as BITWISE SPIDER, PUNK SPIDER, and SCATTERED SPIDER. Attack methods include phishing, vishing with native-language operators, CAPTCHA-lure code execution, malvertising, and SEO poisoning, with the UK, Germany, Italy, France, and Spain and sectors like manufacturing and professional services most affected.
