The FBI warns that foreign-developed mobile apps, particularly those built within China’s infrastructure, may request broad permissions that enable continuous collection of sensitive data (including contact lists and system inputs), store data on servers abroad for indefinite periods, and in some cases contain hidden malware or backdoors; apps from third-party stores pose higher risk. The advisory recommends minimizing app permissions, using official app stores, keeping devices and passwords updated, reviewing privacy policies, and reporting suspicious activity to the IC3.
