India Set to Ban Hikvision, TP-Link Devices in April

Starting April 1, 2026 India will ban the sale of internet-connected CCTV cameras using Chinese-origin chipsets (e.g., Hikvision, Dahua, TP-Link) and enforce STQC certification under IS 13252-1, requiring disclosure of SoC origin, TLS/HTTPS support, and robust patch management; products failing certification are prohibited from import or sale. Domestic vendors have shifted to Taiwanese chipsets and localized firmware, capturing the majority of the market but driving 15–20% price increases; the policy is praised for data sovereignty by some and criticized as protectionist by others.
