Google Introduces End-to-End Encryption for Gmail Business Users

Google announced a beta of Gmail end-to-end (client-side) encryption for enterprise users, enabling encrypted emails to both Gmail and non-Gmail recipients (via guest Workspace accounts) while retaining S/MIME support. Data is encrypted on-device so Google cannot access keys, and administrators gain controls such as restricted viewing for external recipients, access revocation, sensitivity labels, enhanced DLP, and AI-driven threat detection. The beta starts within organizations, with broader support for all Gmail users and other email platforms planned.
