Mitigating Insider Threats – A CISO’s Practical Approach

This article provides a practical framework for CISOs to mitigate insider threats in hybrid work environments by emphasizing least-privilege access governance, SIEM/UEBA-driven monitoring, security awareness, cross-functional coordination with HR and legal, and insider-specific incident response playbooks. It advises framing insider risk as business risk to gain buy-in, using metrics aligned to identify–protect–detect–respond–recover to demonstrate value, and piloting low-risk initiatives to build credibility and support.
