A threat actor operating as "FlamingChina" allegedly stole about 10 petabytes of classified data from the National Supercomputing Center in Tianjin — including military, aerospace, fusion simulation, and bioinformatics files — and has leaked samples while offering access for sale; the breach reportedly impacted thousands of downstream clients that rely on the centralized facility. Reported attack methods include a compromised VPN, deployment of a botnet, and slow, distributed data exfiltration over approximately six months to evade detection, and cybersecurity experts who reviewed leaked samples judged them consistent with the facility's workloads.
