How Ethical Hackers Are Securing Elections

As the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election approaches, the IT-ISAC’s EI-SIG and the Election Security Research Forum (ESRF) organized a September 2023 event where vetted ethical hackers conducted 48-hour hands-on security testing of election technology with three vendors; the collaboration produced 21 reports (19 low-risk, two under review) and highlights the value of vulnerability disclosure policies, transparent testing, and cross-stakeholder cooperation to improve trust and election resilience.
