Third Party Vendor Source of Breach at Home Depot

Home Depot disclosed a major breach that originated from a compromised third-party contractor account; attackers escalated access, deployed custom malware on self-checkout systems across the U.S. and Canada, and exfiltrated payment card data and roughly 53 million customer email addresses. The company reported removing the malware and closing the intrusion vectors and warned customers to be alert for phishing leveraging the stolen emails.
