Starwood Added to List of Hacked Hotel Chains

Starwood Hotels disclosed that malicious software infected POS systems at restaurant locations, enabling unauthorized parties to access customer payment card data (cardholder name, card number, security code and expiration date) across more than 50 properties. The compromises occurred from roughly December 2014 through October 2015 with some locations infected for over a year; Starwood engaged a third-party forensic firm and is coordinating with law enforcement and payment card organizations, and the report notes similar incidents at other hotel chains.
