The Security Ledger reports that multiple Canadian colleges using Skytech's Omnivox student-portal experienced access blocks for IP addresses outside Canada after publicity around Dawson College student Ahmed Al-Khabaz, who disclosed critical security holes and later ran an unauthorized vulnerability scan. Skytech said it began filtering non-Canadian IPs following a surge in curiosity-driven traffic; initial outages returned 403 errors. Al-Khabaz was expelled for “unprofessional conduct,” the case drew public attention and debate over responsible disclosure, and while a denial-of-service was speculated, Skytech denied an attack and attributed the blocks to IP filtering.
