Study Finds Unrelenting Cyber Attacks Against China’s Uyghurs

A multi-institution study analyzed more than 1,400 suspicious emails sent to Uyghur-related groups and found over 75% contained malicious attachments; the messages targeted 724 individuals across 108 organizations and used crafted phishing lures with malicious Microsoft Office or PDF attachments exploiting known vulnerabilities to deliver malware. The activity, similar to previously reported APT tooling, appears aimed at stealing sensitive data and undermining Uyghur organizations, often evading standard antivirus detection and overlapping with Western media and embassy targets.
