GAO: Help Securing Connected Cars is Years Away

The GAO warns that modern connected vehicles possess multiple communications interfaces that are vulnerable to remote, software-based attacks affecting safety-critical functions; although such attacks have been demonstrated, industry and regulatory responses (including NHTSA guidance, voluntary standards, and an Automotive ISAC) remain nascent, and widespread security improvements are likely years away.
