Updated: Intel Fixes ‘Nightmarish’ Firmware Flaw But Nobody’s Safe

Intel disclosed a critical remotely exploitable firmware vulnerability in Active Management Technology (AMT), Intel Standard Manageability (ISM), and Small Business Technology affecting chipsets from 2008–2017; an attacker could gain control of provisioned or network-reachable systems. Intel published a patch and advisory and recommends checking firmware with its discovery utility, coordinating with OEMs for updates, or unprovisioning manageability features as interim mitigation, but OEM rollout delays and licensing/provisioning nuances limit both impact assessments and patch availability.
