Researchers Charlie Miller and Chris Valasek analyzed modern vehicle architectures (ECUs and CAN bus), ranked remote attack vectors (from PATS and TPMS up to Bluetooth, radio RDS, and telematics/cellular/Wi‑Fi), and produced a 92‑page mapping of schematics to identify cars vulnerable to remote compromise. They demonstrated a real-world proof-of-concept Jeep Cherokee compromise via a USB update swap and presented an in-vehicle anomaly-detection/blocking device that can interrupt abnormal CAN traffic and safely pull the car over.
