Research: Russian Disinformation Campaigns Target African Americans

This report summarizes research showing that Russia-linked actors (the Internet Research Agency) conducted coordinated information operations targeting African American communities and U.S. political discourse by creating stereotyped fake personas on Twitter and buying targeted Facebook ads to both suppress Black voter turnout and amplify racial division; researchers from the University of Washington and SOVAW analyzed tweet sets and ad data and warn of continued meddling ahead of U.S. elections.
