Wired and technical researcher Ralf-Philipp Weinmann reported that a sophisticated backdoor exists in Juniper Networks' ScreenOS (used by NetScreen firewalls) which appears to exploit weaknesses in the Dual_EC pseudo-random number generator and a Juniper VPN configuration error; researchers suggest the NSA may have been indirectly responsible by creating or enabling the weaknesses repurposed by attackers.
