Android Malware Doubled in 2016, Adding to Mobile Malware Problem

Nokia's H2 2016 Threat Intelligence Report shows a sharp rise in mobile malware: Android infections jumped 95% year-over-year, monthly smartphone infection rates averaged 0.90% (peaking at 1.35%), and smartphones produced about 85% of malicious mobile-network traffic. The report highlights sophisticated iOS spyware (Pegasus), other mobile threats (AceDeceiver, Yispector), and continuing IoT risks (Mirai), attributing much Android risk to slow security-patch uptake across the ecosystem.
