Funding Cut, Military’s List of Critical Defense Technologies Languishes

The GAO found that the Department of Defense has failed to maintain the Militarily Critical Technologies List (MCTL): updates largely stopped after 2009 due to budget cuts and the list is now outdated and withdrawn from public view, causing agencies to rely on alternative control lists and informal expert networks; GAO recommends DOD decide whether to restore, update, and coordinate the MCTL or seek relief from the legal requirement to maintain it.
