A June 2013 Security Ledger article describes the BadNews mobile ad network: 32 Android apps removed from Google Play for bundling adware that Lookout observed occasionally pushing AlphaSMS premium-rate SMS malware (mainly in Russia). Lookout’s code analysis showed reuse from RUPaidmarket and intermittent malicious ad delivery designed to evade detection; Google disputed links to SMS trojans but still removed the apps and suspended developer accounts.
