A serious arbitrary command-injection vulnerability was identified in NETGEAR home router firmware across 11 models; NETGEAR released production updates for R6400, R7000 and R8000 and temporary/beta fixes for other affected models. A proof-of-concept exploit was published publicly and Shodan showed over 11,000 exposed devices reachable from the Internet, creating a high risk of remote takeover and potential inclusion in botnets (Mirai cited as precedent).
