Survey: Attacks Find Insecure IoT Devices

A DigiCert-sponsored survey of ~700 enterprise product security professionals found large disparities in IoT security: organizations in the bottom security tier all experienced at least one incident and were several times more likely to suffer DoS, unauthorized access, malware/ransomware or data breaches. Poor IoT hygiene has produced substantial financial impacts (25% of bottom-tier firms reported losses ≥ $34M over two years); strong practices noted among the most secure firms include encrypting data at rest/in-transit and signed over-the-air updates.
