Unknown Knowns: Arbor Warns Of Widespread Point of Sale Compromises

Arbor Networks' Threat Intelligence Brief warns that point-of-sale (PoS) systems are being actively targeted by a growing family of specialized malware and long-running targeted campaigns—naming families such as BlackPoS, Alina, Chewbacca, vSkimmer, POSCardStealer and JackPoS—and provides evidence of active development and widespread exposure (including a scan that found 1,089 PoS-related systems with open services); the report urges organizations to harden PoS terminals, limit remote management, and ensure PCI-DSS compliance.
