Intel Promotes ‘Trustlets’ To Secure Embedded Devices

Intel Labs and Technische Universität Darmstadt developed TrustLite, a lightweight security architecture aimed at enabling remote management, authentication, secure OTA updates, and attestation on constrained embedded/IoT devices without relying on virtualization or secure coprocessors. The platform uses an Execution Aware Memory Protection Unit (EA-MPU) and discrete “Trustlets” to run efficient security functions on low-cost hardware, with suggested applications including electronic control units in connected vehicles.
