Hacker Charged in Breach of New York Dam

The DOJ charged seven Iran-based individuals tied to ITSecTeam and Mersad with a campaign of DDoS attacks against U.S. banks and critical infrastructure, including intrusions into the Bowman Avenue dam SCADA system that allowed access to status data and the capability to operate a sluice gate (which was manually disconnected during the intrusion). The indictment links the group to 46 attacks across late 2011–mid 2013 and alleges work for the Iranian government.
