Concept Worm Could Spread Between Networked Attached Storage Systems

A researcher developed a proof-of-concept self-replicating worm that scans the Internet for consumer NAS devices, fingerprints vulnerable platforms, and launches corresponding exploits to take control and propagate; the researcher disclosed multiple zero-day vulnerabilities to affected vendors (Seagate, D-Link, Lenovo, Western Digital, Netgear, HP, Synology, etc.).
