Scaling Security for The Internet of Things with MUD

This article explains Cisco's Manufacturer Usage Description (MUD) proposal to the IETF, which would let device manufacturers publish device- and use-specific communication policies that network controllers can retrieve and enforce to limit IoT devices to expected behaviors; the piece argues MUD is a scalable, standards-based way to reduce IoT-driven threats such as large DDoS botnets and to simplify defense at massive scale.
