With Internet of Things, FBI In No Danger of Going Dark

A Berkman Center report summarized here argues that fears about ubiquitous end-to-end encryption hindering law enforcement are overstated: because most companies monetize data and ecosystems are fragmented, comprehensive adoption of strong encryption is unlikely, and the proliferation of Internet of Things devices and corporate data collection will continue to provide surveillance opportunities without requiring government-mandated backdoors.
