Google Busts Symantec-Issued Certificates and Its a Big Mess

Google announced it will withdraw trust from Symantec-issued TLS certificates after an investigation discovered widespread mis-issuance and validation failures—at least 30,000 improperly issued certificates tied to third-party partners. Chrome will deprecate trust in current Symantec-issued certificates (including EV certs) and progressively shorten maximum certificate ages, forcing many sites (including major brands) to reissue certificates and causing significant operational disruption.
