London Council Reclaims Social Housing Flat Kept by Sierra Leone’s First Lady

Southwark Council has repossessed a subsidized London flat from Sierra Leone’s first lady after a 12-month probe following reporting that she retained the tenancy despite relocating to the presidential palace; the council says it has recovered 107 properties amid investigations into tenancy fraud. OCCRP reporting also found that between 2020 and 2024 the first lady and relatives bought at least ten luxury properties in Gambia with no clear source of funds, and she has not provided a substantive response to queries.
