Investigations of Murdered Paraguayan Journalists Live On

A consortium led by Forbidden Stories and OCCRP launched the Paraguay Alliance to continue investigations into organized crime and corruption after the killing of journalist Humberto Coronel in Pedro Juan Caballero. Based on interviews and judicial documents, they released reports on Paraguayan prosecutors’ failure to cooperate with Brazil regarding the trafficker “Minotauro,” the police raid killing of politician Eulalio “Lalo” Gomes following his indictment, and how lax firearms oversight fuels arms trafficking—underscoring pervasive impunity and escalating risks for journalists in Paraguay.
