China: Former Official Sentenced to Death in $325 Million Bribery Case

A Chinese court sentenced 69-year-old Yang Youlin to death after finding him guilty of accepting more than 2.21 billion yuan in bribes over a 30-year period, as well as embezzlement, money laundering, and abuse of power; the court also stripped him of political rights for life and ordered the confiscation of his assets. The ruling is one of the most severe in Beijing's anti-corruption campaign and follows other high-profile convictions, including the execution last December of Bai Tianhui.
