U.S. Slaps Travel Ban on Two Caribbean Nations Over “Golden Passports”

The U.S. announced travel restrictions on Dominica and Antigua and Barbuda, citing national security and law enforcement concerns tied to their citizenship-by-investment programs, which can allow individuals to obscure identity or evade sanctions. While Caribbean nations have initiated reforms—raising investment thresholds, adding residency requirements, enhancing background checks, and establishing a regional regulatory authority with U.S., EU, and UK input—Dominica and Antigua and Barbuda were still added to the travel ban list. Dominica’s prime minister expressed disappointment and sought clarification and further dialogue with the U.S. administration.
