Romanian Army Chief Investigated in University Admissions Scandal

Romania’s top military commander, Gen. Gheorghiță Vlad, is under investigation by the National Anticorruption Directorate for alleged complicity in usurpation of office after reportedly helping secure 20 additional tuition-free spots at a Bucharest sports university to benefit students (including three slated for Ministry of National Defense officer positions). The announcement alleges the action conferred an undue advantage to students initially admitted to fee-paying spots.
