Experts Say Google's Recent Scam Lawsuit May Have Limited Impact

Google filed a civil lawsuit and coordinated with the FBI and industry partners to disrupt an alleged China-based phishing operation called the Outsider Enterprise, which sold phishing kits and ran mass SMS scams impersonating trusted brands. The report states the group facilitated hundreds of thousands of victim scams across 55 countries, generated more than one million fraudulent URLs and 9,000 fake websites, led to an estimated $1.9 billion in losses and is alleged to have been linked to millions of stolen credit cards; Google also alleges the group used AI to scale and refine phishing lures.
