US Charges Eight More Iranians in Global Hacking Case

U.S. prosecutors expanded an indictment against the Tehran-based Mabna Institute, alleging a state-linked hacking campaign that compromised about 8,000 academic accounts at 322 universities and exfiltrated at least 31.5 TB of research and intellectual property, while also breaching companies, U.S. government agencies, the United Nations and UNICEF; eight additional Iranians were charged, bringing the total linked to Mabna to 17, and the U.S. State Department is offering rewards of up to $10 million for information on five defendants.
