Popular EU Mobile Apps with Security Gaps Lead to Belarus and Russia

An investigation found that a set of mobile apps listed under a Lithuanian developer are likely developed and supported by a Belarus-linked company owned by Andrei Shimanovich, a cofounder of the surveillance app mSpy. Technical analysis and app permissions show collection of names, emails, phone numbers, contacts, location, media and device data, with telemetry routed to Belarusian and Russian services (including Yandex AppMetrica and Voximplant). Given the developer's ties to Belarusian authorities and past mSpy data leaks, the apps pose a significant privacy and surveillance risk—particularly to political exiles.
