“They Made My Life Difficult”: Gambia Whistleblower Speaks Out Amid Lawsuit, Threats

A former executive secretary of The Gambia’s financial crimes commission, Alhaji Mamadi Kurang, alleges years of harassment and legal threats after reporting potential conflicts of interest and procedural issues within the commission investigating ex-President Yahya Jammeh. Kurang, later identified as a source for OCCRP’s 2019 “The Great Gambia Heist,” faces a $2.4 million defamation lawsuit from former lead counsel Amie Bensouda, while advocacy groups condemn alleged retaliation and urge stronger whistleblower protections.
