Anti-Corruption Probe Launched Into Romanian Business Registry’s Failed IT System

Romania’s National Trade Registry Office (ONRC) launched a €38M IT platform in 2024 that caused nationwide service outages, blocked over 130,000 registrations, and exposed personal data of more than 3,000 individuals; audits found the system was insufficiently tested, the source code may not have been delivered, and security checks were incomplete, while prosecutors probe the procurement and management and vendors dispute responsibility.
