Data Breaches During First Half of 2017 Exceed all of 2016

Between January and June 2017 there were 918 reported data breaches resulting in about 1.9 billion compromised records globally; less than 1% of the data was encrypted. Malicious outsiders caused 74% of breaches, identity theft incidents rose markedly, most industries saw record losses increase over 100%, and North America accounted for over 86% of breaches and compromised records.
